Sound barriers

The main hall of the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg accommodates approximately 2,100 spectators in a unique ambiance. The audience is arranged in terraces around the stage, and the hall’s acoustics are highly suitable for concerts featuring a large orchestra.

A surface area of 6,000 m² for a spectacular sound experience. 4,200 kg of lacquer was used on the acoustic interior wall. The ‘white skin’ consists of more than 10,000 milled pieces and caps. This creates over one million shells on this wall that reflect the sound into every corner of the particularly beautiful concert hall.
